Best of all is Ruatapu Cave ('Sacred Hole') 120 feet down a series of steps. It has an aquamarine pool called 'Waiwhakaata', which means 'pool of mirrors'. The map says if you place your left hand in the water and make a wish it's supposed to come true. When I touch the water I'm surprised to find it's warm. I leave my hand in for a couple of minutes and when I take it out my ring is gleaming. The view from the bottom of the cave up to the entrance is of silhouetted tree ferns against the sky which gives me the impression of being underwater.
