I arrived in Taupo last night, a town on the edge of New Zealand's largest lake, which could accommodate the size of Singapore (I'm told by several different people). The lake is a caldera, a collapsed volcanic crater, full of water ready to explode once again. Across the lake the majestic trio of snow covered mountains - Tongariro, Ngauruhoe (Mount Doom in 'Lord of the Rings') and Ruapehu - provide a spectacular backdrop on a clear day.
