The bus drops me off at my overnight destination of Papatowai, a tiny village with a population of 85. I'm staying at Hilltop, a lovely isolated cottage perched on top of a hill overlooking Tahakopa Bay. From here there are stunning views over the rolling hills down to the bay.
It looks like I'm the only guest so I light the log fire (yes this is backpackers accommodation) and sit by the window dreamily absorbing the views.
