Next to the cathedral is the Mausoleo de los Héroes y Mártires (Mausoleum of Heroes and Martyrs). This small square is bordered by a massive mural of desolate landscapes strewn with swords, tanks and other weapons. The mural chronologically depicts the historical tyranny Nicaragua has suffered through the centuries ending with the triumph of the revolution (pictured in the photo).
