Northern Territory, Australia

I'm back to Darwin to today for a night in a real bed before heading to The Kimberley for another 10 days in the wilderness. At the hostel an English girl in my dorm, who I fear will be on my next trip, asks me if there were big drinkers on my previous trip. When I tell her there weren't she looks sorely disappointed.

Darwin is a modern town full of backpackers. Its name suggests a quaint fustiness so I'm half expecting faded fishing boats and charming alleyways. Since it's been destroyed by the elements several times and had to be rebuilt quickly it is what it is: a modern functional town. At the hostel they've handed out free meal tickets at the Vic so I tag along with some others heading that way. On the flyer it says there are Coyote Girls, sex dolls and midgets. Is this all in the same show I wonder?

After my free meal of beef vindaloo my table is given a free bar tab of 50 Australian Dollars which doesn't last very long at all. After a bit of dancing on the tables I head home back at midnight missing out on the Coyote Girls et al. The next day I ask about the sex dolls and midgets but no one seems to know. I do hear though that one of the boys on my last trip was thrown out for touching a Coyote Girl.
