Broome, Australia

I can't wait to get to Broome. Civilisation at last and a hot shower, but Broome is not what I expected. With a population of 14,000 that swells to 50,000 in high season it consists of one main street. It's the Alice Springs of the west.

My hostel is full of spaced-out hippies that have that lived-here-for-a-while look. I wonder if they called it Broome's Last Resort for a reason. Luckily I'm not in a dorm. The one I peer in out of curiosity resembles a jumble sale with a smell that almost knocks me out. My first stop is the shower, and boy does it feel good to be semi-clean again. I think it'll take several washes though to get rid of all the dust.
