As we travel west the landscape fills with the human-like Boab Trees. These stunning trees have huge round fibrous trunks that absorb water and branches that reach out like arms. I remember seeing them in Africa a few years ago although the're known as Baobab Trees there. I ask why they don't have the same name here. The guide says 'Baobab' is too difficult to pronounce for Australians.
Some of these trees are 2000 years old. I'm wondering whether they existed from when Africa and Australia were part of the same super continent (Gondwana) but DNA tests show that although the Australian Boabs descended from the African variety, the seeds either floated across waters or were traded with Africa.
