Bay of Islands, New Zealand

I didn't sleep well in the dorm last night. There was a lot of plastic bag rustling late at night which kept me awake. Still I got my own back this morning as I was the first one up.

It's another grey overcast day. I check into the dive shop again about the Rainbow Warrior just in case but the man laughs and says 'Have you seen the seas out there?' 'They look ok to me' I say, having no idea what I'm talking about. He tells me there are six metre swells so the diving conditions would be very unpleasant. They won't be diving for at least another four days.

Instead I take a 'cruise' around the Bay Islands of which there are 144. It's too rough out in the Pacific so we're restricted to cruising inside the inner islands which isn't bad at all as it's calm and beautiful. Even in dull weather the water is turquoise and clear. When the sun shines for even a few seconds it almost looks tropical. I imagine this area is stunning in Summer.
