The drive past Lake Hawea to Wanaka is sublime landscape - bleak, rugged and dramatic. I had hoped this was Wanaka where I'm staying but it's a further 20 minutes down the road.
As I arrive into town I can barely see the lake. Mist has descended from the surrounding mountains shrouding the town from view.
