Cape Foulwind, New Zealand

The rain is relentless. Apparently it rains here more than 280 days of the year. How depressing.

We stop off at Cape Foulwind at Tauranga Bay, which means 'Sheltered Anchorage' in Maori as boats often took refuge here during rough weather. When James Cook passed through on the Endeavour he encountered a violent storm and left the place the name 'Foulwind'. The windswept bay looks angry and no place I'd choose to shelter. The waves are wild, smashing violently on the rocky crags.
