Skydiving, Lake Taupo, New Zealand

It's something I've always had on my wish list but I'm not exactly sure why this appeals and bungy jumping doesn't. I've signed up for a skydive at 2pm after my morning at the sublime Orakei Korako. When the hostel receptionist asks me if I'm jumping 12,000 or 15,000 feet I have no idea nor what the difference will be. I had planned on doing it in Queenstown but the weather is terrible on the South Island at the moment that I could be waiting around for days or weeks. The receptionist calls to check whether it's going ahead as there's a bit of wind and white crests on the lake. It's going ahead and they'll be here shortly to pick me up.

A white limo (!) draws up to the hostel. Thankfully there are another couple of Brits inside who are also jumping. Down at the airport shed I'm shown a DVD so I'll know what to expect and what my DVD will look like. I must remember to keep my mouth closed when I jump.
