Wellington, New Zealand

Hilly, green Wellington sits on the Pacific and Australian tectonic plates. The last big earthquake in 1856 caused the land to rise up forming the many hills and valleys that make up today's city. Walking around I find it more colourful and cultural than Auckland.

Wellington is tiny compared to most capital cities with a population of 260,000. I could quite happily spend a few days here relaxing but I'm keen to reach the South Island so I've only allowed myself a day to see the sights.
