Stepping off the bus I realise there must be 150 people here. We form a circle to await the Maori welcome by the warriors and are then led to a reconstructed village to see how the Maori used to live. After being treated to a cultural show of song and dance and told the story of Hinemoa and Tutanekai we're led to the dining room for an eat-all-you-can Hangi meat feast. The meat has been cooked underground over hot river stones for hours leaving it tender and succulent. On the bus back to the hostel I feel old as the driver starts everyone off singing songs.
