Me and another girl from the hostel are picked up at 6.30am (it's still dark) and driven to Turangi and National Park village to pick up other walkers. In Tongariro National Park at Mangatepopo Road car park we dress up in waterproofs, grab our crampons and ice axes. The day is prefect, blue skies and crisp snow. I'm feeling fine but a little tired and washed out from the antibiotics. As it gets dark at 4.30-5pm our guide tells us we need to walk fast as it's a minimum 8-hour walk in the snow.
